Just returned from a great weekend in Washington, DC to help out my old friend Tippy with the 2nd annual gandhiwarmer (last year we hit NYC). It went very smoothly, despite almost being halted early on by the Secret Service.

I made a few feet of Gandhi’s scarf along with some of my K1-D2 girls and of course we made hats and scarves to give away to those in need as well as garlands for the base.

We hope he liked our offerings.

While in town, I also made some time for old friends,

good eats,

and a visit to fibre space, where they make you wind your own yarn. It was my first time using a swift and with the Brushed Suri yarn I bought, it was a bit like making cotton candy.

Until next year, Mohandas!
I’ve been working on the K1-D2 hat drive for Hats for Hunger since July. It’s finally over and all the hats have been received, counted, and shot. I’m so pleased to report we had 296 hats donated! 296 - muy fantastico!!!
Thanks to everybody who donated a hat to this very worthwhile cause. What did I make for the drive? A chicken hat.
Remember the lamb I made last month for my young friend to take to China? Well, it’s there now and hopefully being hugged right this very minute.
I put up a post about it on K1-D2 with help from our excellent travel corespondent, Sierra.
I made a lamb for my friend, Sierra, to take to China.
You can read more about Sierra and her trip here.
Our cotton drive for Craft Hope at K1-D2 was a success!
Over 400 towels collected from local knitters and crocheters. Well done, Richmond, well done…We love it!
As I posted about earlier, I am making a hat for Hats for Hunger.
Now K1-D2 will help you donate a hat too! We are taking our Hats for Hunger hat drive to the streets! I am now contacting several local yarn stores around Virginia about participating in this drive by hosting a donation box for us to collect local knitters and crocheters hats.
If you’re a Virginia Maker, please donate 1 hat to help 2 good organizations at once! Stay tuned to K1-D2 for store locations.
Checking out one of the many knit sites I read, I ran into a very amazing video by a special kid named Hannah who taught me all about what this other special kid named Andrew is doing with his organization, Hats for Hunger.
A fantastic group of kids working hard for a great cause...I’m soooo making a hat for them - and you should, too!
